Dive In: Hebrews 4:13

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account. – Hebrews 4:13

Hello blog readers! For everyone participating in the #2019DiveinChallenge, we are memorizing another powerful scripture that helps me as I grow in my Christian faith. I pray that this verse speaks to your heart about God’s unmatched Sovereignty.

Confession: This had been one of my favorite verses to emphasize to my son about not being able to hide anything from God. As a mother, I’ve struggled with a craving for control – and essentially I wanted my son to know that if he did wrong and hid it from me – God would always know. I was desperate to inspire him to behave when I wasn’t around to hold him accountable.

What a limited perspective.

God, in His love, revealed to me that instead of narrowing this verse into my own “moral lesson” for my son – I should see it as something that I (His child) need not ever forget.

Of course God sees all things! The Lord wanted me to see that this verse includes things that are internal. The motives of my heart, my thoughts, my fears, my sin, my grudges, my weaknesses, the fate of my soul — the “invisible” things that I may be able to hide from human eyes, but could never hide from God. I need to remember Hebrews 4:13, because if I truly know it, the convicting power of God’s Holy Spirit would lead me to repent of the unseen sin that is laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom I must give account.

I pray that you spend some time meditating on this powerful scripture. Feel free to share how God speaks to you through the passage!

**The goal of the #2019DiveInChallenge is to intentionally spend more time in God’s word, and commit to memorizing scripture. When the word of God is hidden in your heart, you will begin to realize what Jesus meant when he said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full (John 10:10b NIV).”  That same verse in the NLT translation says, “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”

*All scriptures are quoted from the NIV version unless otherwise noted. Feel free to memorize in whatever version you prefer!
