Dive In: 1 Corinthians 15:58

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. – 1 Corinthians 15:58

Hello blog readers! For everyone participating in the #2019DiveinChallenge, I want to apologize for neglecting to update this blog. As I’ve continued with the challenge on other social media platforms, I’ve failed to create new blog posts on this site. I am prayerfully working to be consistent as I manage my responsibilities. I have some catching up to do on this site.

On April 9th, a new verse was posted. I am chuckling at the irony of this update. The verse is about giving one’s self fully to the work of the Lord. (way to set an example with your late post, Danielle!) Although slightly embarrassed, I won’t allow that to keep me from doing now what I know I should – which is, get back to work! My faith in God’s promise leads me to believe that even my delayed post is not in vain. Enough now about me being late (lol).

In the book of 1 Corinthians, Paul was speaking to a body of believers, who in many ways had back-slidden in their faith. In his letters, Paul consistently reminds believers to stand firm! He understood the impact of environment, especially among new believers. This letter was written to the early church in Corinth. They were new believers surrounded and tempted by reminders of their old way of life. Corinth was a wealthy port city, and a critical intersection for trade. Because so many people passed through, the culture was a mixture of pagan gods (something to appeal to everyone), prostitution, public bars and bath houses, and a lot of immoral acceptances. The early church was encouraged to stand firm, because the passions of the flesh are tempting, especially when on display so boldly as they were in Corinth – and as they are today. We must let nothing move us from the foundation of God’s Word.

A person’s work in the Lord is not some cookie-cutter assignment. God has a unique assignment for each of His children. I have a friend who believes in her heart that God has given her a card-writing ministry. And I will say, I’ve been so blessed by it! She never misses a holiday or birthday! Her cards always fill me with reminders of God’s love – and they just make me feel special to be remembered! God is blessing her labor for His Kingdom.

Whatever work He places on a person’s heart will be fruitful, because our labor in the Lord is never in vain.

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. – 1 Corinthians 15:58

**The goal of the #2019DiveInChallenge is to intentionally spend more time in God’s word, and commit to memorizing scripture. When the word of God is hidden in your heart, you will begin to realize what Jesus meant when he said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full (John 10:10b NIV).”  That same verse in the NLT translation says, “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”
